Arlington Rideshare Drivers: Check Auto Coverage Before Opening the App

Find the coverage at each stage of a trip

An Arlington driver may use the same car for errands and paid rides. Tell your personal auto insurer before accepting rides through an app. Ask what happens when the app is off, when you are waiting for a request, and when a passenger is in the vehicle. The answer can change at each stage.

Do not assume the platform replaces your policy

The Texas Department of Insurance advises ride-sharing drivers to ask about their personal policy and the company’s coverage. A platform may provide liability protection under its terms, but the vehicle-damage deductible, coverage period, and eligibility need careful review. Personal auto policies can exclude paid driving. A rideshare endorsement or other policy may be appropriate; ask what is actually available for your circumstances.

Compare bodily injury and property damage liability, collision and comprehensive coverage for your car, uninsured motorist choices, and any gap between personal and platform policies. Get coverage details in writing before relying on an app summary.

Prepare a short policy review

  • List every app you use and the vehicle driven.
  • Describe how often you drive for pay.
  • Ask how a claim is reported and which insurer handles each phase.
  • Check deductibles and exclusions on both sets of terms.

Read Peak Insurance’s Arlington insurance page and auto insurance options to start a review. Coverage depends on the policies in force at the time of loss.
